About the DIY Program

At the IWK Foundation, we believe that the Maritime’s women, children and youth deserve the best—the best possible care, equipment, research and facilities.

The patients and families at the IWK are brave—they are fighters—and it’s our job to help ensure they have access to world-class care when they need it most.

And we know that you believe that too. That’s why we’ve created the IWK Foundation DIY fundraising program—so that our donors from across the region can join together, side-by-side, and show their support for the patients at the IWK.

When you become a DIY fundraiser, you will receive a personalized webpage to help you fundraise for the IWK Health Centre.

To help promote your fundraising efforts you can download our DIY Social Graphics and our DIY Birthday Social Graphics to share on your social media channels.

Team DIY Fundraising

In Team DIY Fundraising, participants unite to form teams or host events, each with its own fundraising goal. This collaborative approach empowers team members and participants to collectively raise funds for a designated cause or campaign, or to honor contributions on behalf of multiple people. Through teamwork, camaraderie, and healthy competition, participants forge a shared purpose, fostering a sense of unity and achievement. These fundraisers are tied to the name of team fundraiser, and contributions from each team member are viewable on the team page.

  • Team Creation: Participants have the ability to create teams within the platform, specifying team names, goals, and objectives.
  • Team Management: Team captains can manage team settings, invite members to join, and monitor team progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Collaboration Tools: Teams receive communication tools such as email templates and social media content.
  • Visibility: Team fundraising pages are featured on the platform, making it easy for supporters to discover and contribute to team fundraisers.
  • Collective Tracking: Progress towards the team's fundraising goal is tracked collectively, with updates and milestones visible to all team members and supporters.

Individual DIY Fundraising

Individual DIY Fundraising empowers participants to embark on solo fundraising journeys, distinct from team endeavors. Each individual sets their personal fundraising goal and embarks on an independent quest to garner support from their network of friends, family, and allies. These fundraisers are tied to the name of a single fundraiser.

  • Personal Fundraising Pages: Participants can create personalized fundraising pages, where they can share their story, set fundraising goals, and track progress towards those goals.
  • Customization Options: Individuals have the freedom to update their fundraising pages to engage supporters.
  • Communication Tools: Individuals receive email templates, social media content to help individuals reach out to their network and solicit donations effectively.
  • Autonomy: Participants have control over their fundraising efforts, including setting goals, managing donor relationships, and planning fundraising activities.
  • Visibility: Individual fundraising pages are searchable within the platform, allowing supporters to find and contribute to specific fundraisers by searching for the participant's name.

Differences:

  • Team fundraising emphasizes collaboration and collective efforts towards a shared goal, whereas individual fundraising focuses on personal autonomy and self-directed fundraising initiatives.
  • Team fundraising pages showcase the collective efforts of team members, while individual fundraising pages highlight the personal story and mission of the individual fundraiser.
  • Individual fundraisers have sole control over their fundraising pages and communications, while team captains or administrators may have additional management responsibilities for team fundraisers.
  • Individual fundraisers are tied to the name of a single, individual fundraiser.
